Our WORTH Foundation Youth Advisory Board provides a forum for youth of Central Ohio to share their insights and perspectives.
Our youth advisory board continues to show that youth are a catalyst to transform government policies and practices. They convened and facilitated a virtual community conversation, Transforming Columbus: A Youth Conversation on Criminal Justice Reform on June 25, 2020 featuring panelist Ned Pettus Jr., Ph.D. Director of the Department of Public Safety; Senator Hearcel F. Craig Ohio Senate District 15; and Dr. Tina Pierce of the Columbus Board of Education. Our youth engaged the panelists in critical conversation with thoughtful questions:
What is your governmental agency doing to combat racial injustice? How can the youth of Columbus get involved in your agency to help reform the criminal justice system? Would you support mental, psychiatric evaluation and racial bias training be mandatory annually for police officers? What outside agencies should police the police so there is no conflict of interest?
